Lysa hora, at 1323 meters, is not only the highest peak in the Beskydy Mountains. This mysterious and sombre mountain provides views of the cities below - Ostrava, Havirov and Frydek-Mistek. At the same time you can see other Beskydy peaks - Radhošť , Velký Javorník, (Big Javornik), Travný (Grassy) and Smrk (Spruce). As a bonus, the Slovakia mountains of Mala Fatra and the rocky peaks of the High Tatras are also visible..
Many routes lead off the top of Lysa hora. Most people come from Ostravice, which can be accessed by train from Ostrava or Frydek-Mistek. Even by bicycle you can take many paths but only one is sealed all the way to the top and that is from a place called Papežov in the village of  Krásná (Beautiful). So for riders on road bikes there is no other option. Perfectly maintained cross-country ski trails lead here in winter. Ski mountaineers climb the peak even if there is no snow anywhere else. True climbing stars practice(d) here for many extreme expeditions into the mountains including the conqueror of Mount Everest, Leopold Sulovski.

Lysa hora is a place which is governed by different weather conditions than in the valley. In 1911, the largest snowfall in the history of the Czech Republic was measured here at    491cm!

On the very top of the mountain is located a mountain rescue centre, meteorological station as well as the landmark point of the radio transmitter, which is 78 meters tall. There has been a shelter named Albrecht Habsburg here since 1880. Today there are newly opened mountain chalets such as Bezručova chata and the Emil Zatopek hut.
