The Ostrava Zoo is the second largest in the Czech Republic. It covers 100 hectares and visitors can easily spend the entire day here. The majority of the pavilions have progressed with the times, so guests are not separated from the animals by bars, but, where possible, by natural barriers or glass.
Ostrava's zoo is renowned for its lemur breeding programme—animals that you will not find in any other Czech zoo. The elephants are also a big draw, primarily due to the elephant calves that have been raised at the zoo. The park is divided into several different sections, according to geography and types of animals. This means that in one of these sections you can visit, for instance, African wildlife with its elegant giraffes.

The zoo also offers paths through landscaped parks, such as the one in the Japanese garden with a stream and footbridges. You can travel around the complex in a small train and there are also many places to have a meal. Today, the zoo is one of the most modern in the country, and even stacks up against European rivals as well. Moreover, it is continuously working to better itself. It is no surprise that Ostrava's zoo is one of the most popular attractions in the city.
