The Beskydy area and Wallachia have its own traditional cuisine, based on what is prolific in the harsh mountain conditions. It is influenced by neighboring regions, such as Těšínska or from nearby Slovakia. It is a regional specialty that you will not find anywhere else, a real Wallachian frgál.
Originally housewives called "frgál" (a flat, pizza-shaped tart) a cake, which had not risen. The first mention of this kind of cake dates back to 1826. Today, frgál is a product that is protected by the European Commission and can be produced only in the region of Wallachia.
Without frgál, people from valašská can not hold any celebration or social event. There are many kinds of tart, most are made with cottage cheese, poppy seed and pear. However, there are bakeries that specialize in complete rarities such as blueberry or even sour cherry-chocolate frgál.
