The castle in Bruntál is one of the few that can boast many original interiors. Thanks to its enormous charm, the castle was chosen as a location for shooting the fairy tale, ‘The Emperor and the Drummer Boy’ and the story, ‘Goldsmith Andrew’. The castle stands on the original Gothic stronghold.
The castle’s current look comes from the beginning of the 20th century. The castle houses an exhibition dedicated to the nature of the Bruntál region. You can admire the artwork of Dutch, German and Italian master painters in the castle gallery. The paintings come from the valuable collection of the Teutonic Knights who owned the castle for centuries.

The castle visit starts in the courtyard of a unique quarter-circle ground plan and with impressive arcades and a 60m tower with a clock. It continues to the chapel and the audience chamber with beautiful chandeliers made of Silesian glass. The study of Archduke Eugene, the last Grand Master of the Teutonic Knights from the Habsburg dynasty, will give you a sneak peek into the life of the Archduke.

You will also see other chambers and areas, including the Main Hall that housed all the important events. The hunting room and the castle library are equally remarkable. The last six rooms house the already mentioned art gallery. You can admire the outdoor architecture and statues in the castle park.

If you want to learn more about the local history, you can visit the Sovinec Castle. Or, if you want to learn about rural life, you should visit the scythe plant in Karlovice
