The park, 'Bozena Nemcova', is popular for walks and not only with residents of Karvina
. It is really the former grounds of the Fryštát chateau
, ie the oldest part of town. In addition to romantic walks with a view of the empirical-style chateau, people also come here for the modern, open-air cinema.
The garden was founded in the early 19th century as a typical English style chateau park to surround the imposing chateau building. The estate was owned by Larisch-Mönnich, who greatly influenced not only Karvina, but a large part of the region from Ostrava to Opava. Today, in the park, there is located the count's family tomb.
There is also a Loděnice
(boathouse) in the park from where you can rent a boat and cruise on the oxbows of the Olše (Olza) river. In one of the former castle stables there is a mini-zoo with deer and waterfowl. Families with children will also find a nice playground in the park which resembles an old Slavic settlement.
