A view-tower stood on the highest mountain of Moravia and Silesia at the beginning of the 20th century. It resembled a Gothic tower and its observation deck was 32 meters above the ground. It was built out of stone from the nearby Tabulové Rocks. This material, however, proved to be unsuitable, because it crumbled and the tower was no longer safe. The tower was scheduled for reconstruction but collapsed in 1959.
So, instead of reconstructing the old tower, the city decided to build a new modern tower that could receive television signal transmissions. The construction started in 1968. It included a new road, which is still used for supplying the chalet and is now the only access road to the top of the mountain. The television transmitter is 146.5 meters high and you can reach the observation deck, at a height of 73 meters, within a couple of seconds by taking the lift. The top of the television transmitter reaches 1,637 meters, which makes it the highest accessible point in the Czech Republic.

The views are spectacular. If the weather is good, you can see Mount Lysá in the Beskydy Mountains, Mount Radhošť, Mount Kelčský Javorník and Mount Sněžka in the Krkonoše Mountains. If you are really lucky, you can see the summits of the High Tatras and even the Alps. The television transmitter tower includes a restaurant and a hotel with the highest possible accommodation in the Czech Republic.
