One of the examples of what the church buildings in the Těšín Beskydy region looked like is the Church of St. Nicholas in Nýdek. Like any wooden building, it has undergone many renovations, yet it retains much of its original charm from the 16th century when it was built in Nýdek.

Today, the church has been restored to resemble its original appearance as closely as possible. The wooden shingles have returned to the roof and the base is again made of natural stone as it once was. The story of this church is also the story of the religious movements that have marked the area. When the church was built, it was evangelical. However, like many other churches in the area, the one in Nýdek was taken away from the Protestants and became Catholic in the mid-17th century. When Emperor Joseph II issued his Toleration Patent, the vast majority of Nýdek’s inhabitants left the Catholic faith and returned to their original Protestant religion.

The oldest and most important monument in Petrovice u Karviné is the wooden Church of the Ascension of the Lord in Dolní Marklovice. It has stood on a small hill since the middle of the 18th century; the original church, which has fallen into disrepair, stood here in the 14th century.

At the end of the 20th century, restorers uncovered wall paintings with floral motifs, which are unique in this part of Moravia and Silesia.

The church in Dolní Marklovice is one of the most beautiful sacral buildings in Těšín Silesia. Other wooden churches can be visited, for example in Bystřice nad Olší or Hrčava.

The wooden church of Cyril and Methodius has stood in Hrčava since the 1930s and is the youngest wooden church in the Moravian-Silesian region. The carved baptismal font by local one-armed carver Ondřej Zogata is unique.

The church is located along the route that leads tourists to a popular place called Trojmezí, where the borders of three countries meet: the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland. Near the church there is also the Lourdes Cave. This place of pilgrimage was created artificially during the construction of the Church of Cyril and Methodius. The builders imported more stone than was needed. So Karel Smyczek, the head teacher from Jablunkov and also a member of the provincial parliament (and grandfather of the famous Czech film director of the same name), proposed to build an artificial cave from the leftover stone and to bring water from the spring to it. The water is said to be healing, especially for eye diseases.

One of them is the Church of All Saints in the part of the town called Butovice. The church is a protected monument and one of the proofs that the Moravské Kravařsko region is a jewel of Baroque art in the whole Czech Republic.

It confirms that churches built on hills have a special charm. A brick Baroque church was built on the site of the original wooden church between 1775 and 1781. Today you will find a richly decorated interior inside, the most striking feature of which are the rare altarpieces from the late 18th century by the Fulnek painter J. G. Frömmel.

Near All Saints’ Church there is a smaller chapel of St. Anne and a tall stone cross with a wing motif by the cemetery wall.

One of the most important places to discover the Baroque architecture of Fulnek is the Church of St. Joseph and the Capuchin Monastery. The site gives you an idea of the simplicity of the life of the monks who lived here until the middle of the twentieth century.

The Church of St. Joseph is characterised by its simple architecture, exactly in the spirit of Franciscan rules. It lacks, for example, the usual tall tower for Catholic churches, which is replaced by a small spire on the roof of the building. The cells occupied by the monks themselves are equally simple. And their way of life was also modest, as evidenced by the gardens in the monastery courtyard.

The Fulnek Capuchin monastery even survived the reform of Joseph II, who abolished many monasteries in 1782, leaving only five monasteries, one of which was in Fulnek. The monks lived on the hill behind the stream even after the Second World War, when one April night in 1950 the state security arrived, occupied the monastery and sent the monks to internment. In their place, nuns from many of the monasteries that had been closed down moved in.

Today, the church has been repaired and is open to the public, and reconstruction of the monastery premises is underway. In the vicinity of St. Joseph’s Church there is also the Chapel of St. Roch and Sebastian, which serves as an exhibition hall, and the Villa Loreta, which used to be part of the monastery, but is now a children’s home.

Today the Baroque church dates back to the Gothic period. The second oldest church bell in Moravia sounds from the tower of the church, which was raised to the belfry in 1374. The interior includes paintings by Opava painters and the organ, now freshly renovated, is magnificent.

The chapel of St.Roch and St.Sebastian, which formed the cemetery chapel of the old cemetery on the hill behind Fulnek and was part of the grounds of St.Joseph's Church, is also part of the Baroque history of Fulnek.

The cemetery was closed in 1903, but the chapel, whose origins date back to 1632, was preserved. You can recognize it by its roof in the form of a military helmet, which is reminiscent of the roof of the Black Tower in the centre of Fulnek.

Today, the Chapel of St. Roch and Sebastian serves as an exhibition space.

The church, which stands in the square in Vítkovice, fits exactly into the colour of the whole historical core of Vítkovice, i.e. the Ostrava city district. Like the surrounding buildings, St. Paul's Church is built entirely of red brick.

The original plan envisaged a classical solution, i.e. two towers above the entrance to the church. In the end, only one tower was built to resemble a bell tower from the Tuscany region of Italy. The tower was built before the church. It served as a water tower and an observation tower for the fire department. It was not until three years later that the church was built and the two structures were connected by a small passageway.

Three steel bells made in the local ironworks sound in the tower. The altar contains part of the relics of St. John Sarkander and the church also contains a painting of Marie Antonína Kratochvílová, a native of Vítkovice who was beatified by Pope John Paul II at the end of the twentieth century. Sister Marie Antonína was martyred by the Gestapo while serving as superior of a community of nuns in Ukraine.

St. Paul’s Church is part of the increasingly visited Vítkovice Urban Reserve, which is the gateway to the Dolní Vítkovice area.

When the former village of Zábřeh nad Odrou became one of the most populated parts of Ostrava, the construction of the church was "forgotten". The site for the church was chosen in 1968, but that was the end of everything for many decades.

Today, a new modern church of the Holy Spirit finally stands on the site where it was supposed to be built. The building is dominated by a 30-metre high reinforced concrete tower with a bell tower. The church itself is elliptical in shape and the quieting area is designed with several calming zones that gradually isolate the church from noise, light and cold. Because the bedrock at the site is unstable, the church stands on concrete piles anchored eighteen metres into the ground.
