Ostrava Zoo

Head out “into the wild” at the second largest Czech zoo. The new pavilions, large outside runs and expositions of Ostrava’s zoological garden and botanical park will transport you around the globe!

Spend a great day with your family at the second biggest zoo in the Czech Republic! On over 100 hectares, you will see over 435 animal species represented by over 4,000 creatures, as well as countless rare plants at the botanical park.The Ostrava zoo has gone through major changes over the last several years, building many new pavilions, large natural runs and walk-through expositions. You will find yourself transported to other parts of the world when you set foot in the Asian Ungulate Safari, Amazonia or Wetlands. Children will be excited to visit the Farm exposition and meet animals they can pet and feed.

In the spread-out botanical park, you can traverse 6 kilometers of educational trails that also lead through the largest collection of rhododendrons and azaleas in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. We also highly recommend the unique path that winds through the wetland ecosystem with large models of reptiles and amphibians.

Every month, the zoo hosts various events and lectures, as well as the very popular narrated animal feeding sessions. There are great family amenities, several kiddy corners, playgrounds, hundreds of benches to rest on, quiet zones and, of course, refreshment stands. And if you or your children get tired feet, let the zoo’s choo choo train or the Safari Express do some of the traveling for you.
