Lysá hora (Lysá Hora mountain)

Lysá hora with its 1,323 metres is so much more than the highest peak of the Moravian-Silesian Beskydy Mountains.

The mysterious and mystical mountain offers views of the towns below – Ostrava, Havířov and Frýdek-Místek. You can also see other Beskydy peaks – Radhošť’ and Velký Javorník, Travný and Smrk. A bonus is the Slovak Little Fatra and the rocky peaks of the High Tatras. There are many routes to the summit, but most people start from Ostravice, to where they can get by train from Ostrava or Frýdek-Místek.

There are also many cycling routes, but only one of them, from the village of Krásná to Papežov, is completely asphalted, creating thus no alternative for road cyclists. In winter, there is a well-groomed cross-country ski trail leading here. Ski mountaineers climb the mountain when there is no snow anywhere in the area. For many extreme expeditions to the mountains, real mountaineering stars train here, including Mount Everest climber Leopold Sulovsky.

Lysá hora is a place where the weather is quite different from the valley. In 1911, the largest snow cover in the history of the Czech Republic was measured here – 491 centimetres!

The mountain service, a meteorological station and a 78-metre high transmitter are located on the summit. As early as 1880, the Albrecht Habsburg refuge was built here. Today, Bezruč’s hut and Emil Zátopek’s hut are newly opened here.
