Church of Peter and Paul in Hněvošice

The Church of Peter and Paul in Hněvošice is unique because it is the only wooden church in the Opava and Hlučín region.

The timbered building is more similar to the churches common in the poor areas of the Beskydy Mountains. In the rich Opava region, believers used to save up for more splendid and therefore more expensive brick churches. The church has stood in Hněvošice since 1730. There used to be two bells in its tower, one of which was seized during the Second World War, so today a late Gothic bell rings from the tower. At the end of the war, the church suffered from the massive fighting that took place in the area. Today it has been reconstructed and tours can be arranged at the rectory.
