Church of St. Wenceslas

The original Gothic church of St. Wenceslas in the centre of Opava was part of the Dominican monastery. Today, together with the restored monastery, it serves as a stand for culture, for example, exhibitions are held here.

The restoration of the church is connected with the person of sculptor Kurt Gebauer, a native of nearby Hradec nad Moravicí, who began uncovering the original paintings here at the beginning of the 21st century, following the example of Italian restorers. Thanks to these sensitive interventions, where the paintings are left in the condition in which they were found, the interior of the church was awarded the interior of the year 2007 by the Czech Chamber of Architects.

The Church of St. Wenceslas, as well as the adjacent monastery, can also be explored with a guide.
