Statue of John of Nepomuk in Budišov
One of the most valuable monuments of Budišov nad Budišovkou is the statue of St. John of Nepomuk. The sandstone statue from the Baroque period can be found on a stone bridge over the Budišovka River.
The bridge is a gem of Baroque architecture and one of the most beautiful stone bridges in Opavské Slezsko.
However, the bridge is not the first place that the statue of John of Nepomuk adorns. However, it has never been established where the statue of Nepomuk was moved from. Its author is not clear either, it is assumed to be the Baroque sculptor Jiří Antonín Heinz, but he worked mainly in Olomouc and Znojmo, which only confirms the fact that the statue was brought from somewhere.
Interestingly, in 1959 the head of the saint was struck by the barrel of a tank that was crossing the bridge for a military exercise. Today the statue has been repaired to its original form.
