Hlučín Chateau

Hlučín Chateau is a part of the historical centre of the town and houses the Hlučín Museum and the local information centre. The first mention of the chateau dates back to the middle of the 15th century, but it is believed that even before that there was a Gothic fortress.

During the Napoleonic Wars, after the defeat of the Prussian troops, French officers were accommodated here. The biggest changes to the chateau came at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, when it was rebuilt in its present form. In the middle of the 19th century, the entire Hlučín estate, and thus the chateau, was acquired by the Rothschilds, who first supported a lively artistic movement here, but later rented the building to public institutions, so that it housed, for example, the Prussian court.Today, the chateau is owned by the town of Hlučín, which is gradually renovating it and using it for cultural and social events in the town. The Hlučín Chateau is thus one of the historical buildings that attract tourists and visitors from other places who come to Hlučín, for example to the water reservoir of the former gravel pit lake. Near the chateau there is the Church of St. John the Baptist.
