Bažantula Nature Reserve

Where the Odra River has been spilling into dead-end channels for centuries, it forms an original landscape of still waters.

Thanks to the Poodří Protected Landscape Area, we can observe endangered plants and animals that are no longer found anywhere else.

One such amazingly rich piece of vegetation is the Bažantula Nature Reserve near Studénka. Visitors here will enjoy the sight of wild nature around four ponds, unspoilt by the modern world. The Bažantula is the last area where the very rare shielded floater grows, and there are also excellent conditions for the floating anchor, which gave its name to the nearby Kotvice Nature Reserve.

In addition to endangered aquatic plants and reeds, various old trees grow along the dykes. Among the protected animals in the Bažantula Nature Reserve are, for example, sundews, and among the birds, chest waders and grebes, but a bat also flies by. The interplay of plants and animals in a unique ecosystem is an example of how everything works together.
