Church of the Ascension of the Lord in Dolní Marklovice

The oldest and most important monument in Petrovice u Karviné is the wooden Church of the Ascension of the Lord in Dolní Marklovice. It has stood on a small hill since the middle of the 18th century; the original church, which has fallen into disrepair, stood here in the 14th century.

At the end of the 20th century, restorers uncovered wall paintings with floral motifs, which are unique in this part of Moravia and Silesia.

The church in Dolní Marklovice is one of the most beautiful sacral buildings in Těšín Silesia. Other wooden churches can be visited, for example in Bystřice nad Olší or Hrčava.
