Černá věž
The so-called Black Tower rises in Fulnek like a beacon on the shore of the sea. Visitors can recognize it by its black roof, which is shaped like a military helmet. The sound of the bell from the tower greeted tennis player Petra Kvitová when she returned home to Fulnek in 2011 with a fresh Wimbledon winner's trophy.
The black tower was part of the town’s fortifications and served as a belfry and later as a bell tower. It forms part of the baroque centre of Fulnek, one of the most important towns in the Moravské Kravařsko region. Today, the Black Tower houses a bell dedicated to St. Catherine, which was donated to Fulnek in 1995 by former local citizens of German nationality living in Germany after their displacement after the Second World War.
The bell is reached by 64 steps up a steep wooden staircase. The tower is open to the public only on certain festive days, but it is being considered for regular access for tourists and visitors to the historic town of Fulnek.
