Church of Our Lady of the Snows in Ruda u Rýmařova

Ruda u Rýmařova used to be one of the richest settlements in the area in the Middle Ages. Gold, silver and iron ore were mined here and agriculture also flourished.

Another exceptional work of Baroque art begins at the church. It is the Stations of the Cross with fourteen stops. The sandstone sculptures are in the shape of a heart at the top, in which are carved depictions of Jesus’ journey to Golgotha. The twelfth stop, in the form of a giant cross, stands right on top of the hill named the Hill of the Cross. Apart from dominating the landscape, the view from this stone monument is stunning.

The Stations of the Cross, the Baroque church and the whole hill have experienced all the dramatic events of the village below the hill. The statues even survived the bombing during World War II and today they are one of the great attractions for tourists to this beautiful part of the Rýmařov region. Tourists can continue to the natural unique feature that is the famous Rešov waterfalls. Nearby there is also the Sovinecko Nature Reserve.
