Church of St. Peter of Alcantra Karviná
The Church of St. Peter of Alcantara stands in the part of Karviná called Doly and due to undermining it has fallen by more than 35 metres. As it gradually sank into the ground, it was so heavily tilted that it was in danger of collapsing for many years. Today it is more sloping than the tower of Pisa in Italy!
It is hard to say whether it hasn’t collapsed because of the solid foundations or whether a higher power helped… What is certain is that today the church is the last and only reminder of how things looked in this busy and showroom part of Karviná in the days when coal was not mined here yet.
The incredibly strange feeling of not knowing where your sure step has gone can be experienced during tours or a church service.
