Church of the Holy Spirit in Ostrava

When the former village of Zábřeh nad Odrou became one of the most populated parts of Ostrava, the construction of the church was "forgotten". The site for the church was chosen in 1968, but that was the end of everything for many decades.

Today, a new modern church of the Holy Spirit finally stands on the site where it was supposed to be built. The building is dominated by a 30-metre high reinforced concrete tower with a bell tower. The church itself is elliptical in shape and the quieting area is designed with several calming zones that gradually isolate the church from noise, light and cold. Because the bedrock at the site is unstable, the church stands on concrete piles anchored eighteen metres into the ground.
