Gruň – Bílý Kříž Educational Trail

The Gruň - Bílý Kříž educational trail leads along one of the most beautiful inhabited ridges of the Beskydy Mountains - Gruň. It is a trail with a historical and natural science focus that starts in Staré Hamry at the monument to Maryčka Magdonová and leads to the last stop at Bílý Kříž. The trail with 14 stops is marked and runs parallel to the green hiking trail to Gruň and from there on along the yellow trail.

At the individual stops of the nature trail, visitors will learn about the history of the village of Staré Hamry and how the construction of the Šance-Řečice reservoir was prepared and what had to be sacrificed for the waterworks. It is also possible to stop at the place where a miraculous healing spring originates or at a haunted place. The route also includes the land where the partisan zemljanka used to stand. Visitors will also stop at the Podgruň natural monument along the way. This is an upland meadow with rare and protected plant species. Another interesting feature is the so-called barefoot path, where children from the surrounding cottages used to walk barefoot to school in summer. Visitors will also learn about the local mountain hardy breed of sheep – the Wallachian, about the extinct settlements and about the history of the name of the place – Bílý Kříž.
