Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava

Be enchanted by the musical art of one of the three best symphony orchestras in the Czech Republic, which has been active since 1954. The artistic profile of the orchestra, which currently has approximately 100 members, is characterized by a full and rich string sound, musical expression and technical maturity.

The Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava (JFO) organises more than 50 diverse symphonic concerts for the Ostrava audience every year and tries to present the most varied repertoire, including Czech and world premieres, and the best artists.

Its concert series includes not only the traditional symphonic cycles, but also commentary concerts, for example in the form of film music, family-friendly concerts, chamber music cycles, concerts of young talents, the Gong concert series, which focuses on combining classical music with other musical genres, etc. The orchestra tries to keep to the tradition of classical music, but also tries to make it more accessible to the common listener. That’s why it is collaborating, for example, with the leading Czech DJ Lowa on a project combining orchestra with electronic dance music.
