Baroque church in Cvilín (Cvilín Pilgrimage Church)
The pilgrimage church of Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows and the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Cvilín serves as a good landmark in the landscape.
The original sanctuary stood on the hill in the 17th century, but the wooden chapel was not enough to accommodate the faithful who came to the Minorite monastery to venerate two images of the Virgin Mary. Therefore, the Minorites decided to build a new, larger and brick church next to the existing chapel. The resulting church is richly decorated with frescoes that are admired by the faithful and visitors to this day.
There are fourteen chapels around the church depicting the Stations of the Cross. The church and the Stations of the Cross are a national cultural monument. Today the church is an important pilgrimage site that attracts the faithful and is called Silesian Hill. Some people go to the local lookout tower or to see the remains of Cvilín Castle.
