The Max’s Reservoir
The Max's Reservoir is located on the Smradlava River, on the northern side of the Moravian- Silesian Beskydy Mountains and lies 647 metres above sea level.
It is the largest reservoir in
the Beskydy Mountains with a dam formed by an embankment, which measures 30 metres in
length and 8 metres in height. The capacity of the reservoir is approximately 15,500 cubic
metres.
This water reservoir for rafting was built after 1836 during the modernization of the Frýdlant
forges. It is named after the Olomouc Archbishop Maximilian Joseph Sommerau-Beckh, who held the title from 1836 to 1853. The reservoir was taken over by the forest administration
at the end of the 19th century. The reservoir had to be repaired several times (1968, total
reconstruction of the dam in 1992–1993), however, it was again damaged during floods in the
years 2008–2013.
Both walkers and cyclists can reach the reservoir. The easiest access route is from the village of
Bílá via the green tourist trail. This route is also suitable for families with children,
