Pustevny
Pustevny is one of the most visited mountain resorts in the Beskydy Mountains. They got their name from the fact that at the end of the eighteenth century, solitary monks, i.e. hermits ('poustevníci'), made use of the tranquillity here.
The mountain ridge that stretches towards the mythical peak of Radhošt’ offers great views of the entire Beskydy Mountains and the towns in the valley.
There is also an old road leading to Pustevny, the so-called Knížecí road, which serves cyclists and cross-country skiers in winter. Another way to get to the top is the chairlift, which is even the oldest chairlift in Europe, as it was built in 1940.
There are several mountain huts at the top, the most famous being the folk buildings of architect Dušan Jurkovič. Hiking trails lead to Radhošt’ or to a mysterious place called the “Čertův mlýn” (Devil’s Mill). In winter, a great ridge trail leads from Pustevny to the Martiňák mountain hut. And there are several ski lifts at the very top of Pustevny.
