Statue of John of Nepomuk in Bohumín
When the restorers started to repair the statue of John of Nepomuk in Bohumín in 2002, they found over fifty coins from the years 1619 to 1868 in the pedestal under the statue.
The treasure is now stored in the Museum of Těšínsko in Český Těšín, the statue of John of Nepomuk is back in its place after the reconstruction and the coins and documents from the present day are in the pedestal below it.
The statue of John of Nepomuk, who was tortured and thrown into the Vltava River at the end of the 14th century, stands in many Czech, Moravian and Silesian villages and towns. The one that can be admired by people in Bohumín was created by an unknown sculptor in the mid-18th century and stands in the square in Starý Bohumín.
