The Small Semmering Railway Museum in Horní Lipová

The museum in Horní Lipová, dedicated to the Silesian Semmering Railway, is quite small but extremely interesting. The entire museum fits into a small building that was used to control railway sections. You can learn about the history of the railway that, in 1888, connected the villages of Branná, Ostružná, Ramzová and Lipová.

There are historical documents that introduce work on the railway. You can punch an old typical cardboard ticket from the recent past. The museum also includes photographs, railwaymen’s hats and signalling devices.

A small motor train journeys here on a winding track that passes over many valleys. This track required viaducts to be constructed and overcomes a big gain in elevation.  This railway is called Silesian Semmering, according to similar highland railway sections in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Ramzová is the highest point of the route and the highest express train station in the Czech Republic.
