Venus Volcano

The hill above the Slezská Harta water reservoir is called Venus Volcano.

From the 643-metre-high peak you can enjoy a great view of Praděd and other nearby volcanoes – Velký and Malý Roudný.

Venus Volcano is another of the extinct volcanoes that remind us of the volcanic origin of this area. Near the summit, you can see the remnants of the lava, the so-called lava tuffs that were mined here. The hole, which some tourists consider to be the crater of this Bruntál Etna, is in fact one of the former mining pits of an old quarry.

Under the Venus Volcano in the village of Mezina there is a completely unique geological formation. In the abandoned quarry there are admirable stone columns, which were formed by cooling of hot lava flowing from the mouth of the Venus Volcano. This basalt natural formation is called the Lava Stream at Mezina.

These and other remains of volcanic activity in the Bruntál region are connected by the Following Volcanoes Educational Trail.
