Vysoká hole

The second highest peak of the Jeseníky Mountains is Vysoká hole, which is on a beautiful ridge route from Ovčárna towards Jelení hřbet. Near the top there was a historical border between Moravia and Silesia and there is still a sandstone border stone from the seventeenth century.

The plateau formed on this ridge attracted military strategists. The Czechoslovak army held artillery exercises here in the 1920s, and the German Luftwaffe built a field airfield here, 1,400 metres above sea level. From Vysoká hole you can see amazing views of Praděd, Dlouhé Stráně and other mountain peaks, as well as Bruntál and Opava. One of the rarest natural parts of the mountains, the Velká kotlina, and one of the most important botanical localities in the Czech Republic and Central Europe, is located here.
