Hrad Starý Jičín Starý Jičín Castle
The ruins of the Starý Jičín Castle are situated at the top of a hill, which is easily recognizable from the surrounding area thanks to its conical shape. Starý Jičín was one of the many castles that protected the Amber Trail, which led through Moravia and Silesia to the Baltic Sea.
The Starý Jičín Castle belonged to the administration of the Lords of Hückenwald, a noble family that belonged to the court of Přemysl Otakar I.
The old walls are freely accessible all year round, the lookout tower is open for a fee. There is a souvenir shop in the tower and visitors can look at a model of the castle, which shows what Old Jičín looked like at the time of its greatest glory.
From the hill on which Starý Jičín is situated, you can enjoy stunning views of the Beskydy Mountains and the Jeseníky Mountains.
