Návštěvnické centrum Nový Jičín – a town of hats

Discover the secrets of the hat-making technology through an interactive exhibition. It will guide you through the local hat-making tradition dating back to the 16th century.

The second part of the visitor centre is dedicated to the famous General Laudon – the house where the exhibition is located is where the warlord breathed his last. You can become a soldier yourself, try on a military uniform or conquer a city with the help of a cannon! Thanks to the interactive elements of the hat exhibition, you will experience an active tour during which you will discover the magic of hat making from rabbit and hare skins to the final decorated product. The first part of the exposition is dedicated to the technological process of hat production, in the second part or studio you can buy a mini hat from the Tonak workshop and decorate it yourself.

The final part of the exposition will delight all hat lovers. In the rehearsal room you can try on several hundred different hats, caps and accessories! The 3D fitting room, which offers 40 kinds of virtual hats, is also perfect. Take a picture with your best one and have it printed or emailed to you.

The visitor centre is located in the so-called Laudon House, where the famous Austrian marshal died in 1790. Laudon is the subject of another interactive exhibition, which takes visitors through all the stages of the commander’s life and introduces the character of the historical period. You can try on period military clothing, equipment and armour.

A big attraction is the interactive cannon aimed at the canvas with the city walls. The popular General Ernst Gideon von Laudon and his successes in the fight against the Prussians are commemorated, for example, by a three-metre high diorama of the Battle of Domashov with more than 500 tin soldiers.

And in the fun game Laudoncaching you can become a treasure hunter. After finding the codes and solving the riddle, you get a reward!
