Johann Gregor Mendel’s Birth House
The world-renowned scientist, the founder of genetics, Johann Gregor Mendel was born in 1822 in Hynčice, which is now part of the village of Vražné in the Nový Jičín region. His birth house is a worthy reminder of this genius and a point for further exploration of the Poodří region and one of the biggest tourist attractions of the Moravské Kravařsko region.
The grounds of Mendel’s birth house have been very delicately restored and its main part is an exhibition dedicated to the life and work of the man who was a versatile scientist and also a clergyman of the Augustinian Order in Old Brno. Here the tourist can also learn about rural life in the area, where there are many nature reserves and technical monuments. There is a lecture hall in the former barn and the garden where Mendel spent his childhood is undergoing gradual reconstruction. The family home also offers accommodation.
