Pilgrimage site in Spálov

At the end of the Thirty Years' War, a soldier wounded in battle took refuge in this then deserted place, and was saved by the local spring of cold water and prayers to the Virgin Mary.

The soldier survived and his recovery was considered a miracle and an act of the Virgin Mary herself.

Then it was enough for the miller from the nearby Spálovský Mill to place an image of the Virgin in this place, and since it was far from the church, he came here on Sundays. More and more believers joined and gradually the rock became a place of pilgrimage. When the Spálovský family built a new church in the 18th century, the image from the rocks was supposedly placed there. However, the image of the Virgin Mary is said to have always returned to its original place, even from the locked church. The third time this happened, the locals decided that it was the right thing to do and left the image in the rocks. Later, the image was replaced by a statue.

But the mystery of this place does not end there. For example, it is said that the stone basin in which the water from the miraculous spring accumulates is the original Gothic font from the old church in Spálov.

It is certain that today this place is a favourite spot for tourists, hikers and believers. And one of the places in the Moravské Kravařsko region, which exudes an atmosphere of mystery.
