Slezská Harta

Explore the beauty of the youngest dam in the Czech Republic and the attractions in its surroundings - and there is no shortage of them! You can explore the treasures of Slezská Harta, which lies on the Moravice River and crosses the Moravian-Silesian border, on foot, by bike or from the deck of a boat.

If you prefer to view the landscape from the water, you have some very interesting options. You can enjoy the greatest possible romance on board the wooden sailing ship Santa Maria, which seems to have been cut out of the time of Christopher Columbus. You’ll have an equally powerful experience on the brand new large-capacity boat Harta or on an electric boat, and if you want to rely on your own strength, choose one of the pedal boats that you can rent at several locations around the dam!

If you prefer to explore your surroundings from the saddle of a bike, you’ll be in your element here. The spectacular views of the water surface set in the region of extinct volcanoes, surrounded by the ridges of the Hrubý Jeseník Mountains, will simply take your breath away. And if you’re not a skilled cyclist? Never mind! You can rent an electric bike in Leskovec nad Moravicí! The local cycling and hiking trails will take you around the entire dam and lead you, for example, to the oldest town in the Czech Republic – Bruntál.

You can combine your visit with a tour of the local chateau, relaxation in the excellent spa centre or a walk to the Uhlířský vrch volcano, at the top of which stands the Baroque Church of Our Lady of Help and at the foot an abandoned tuff quarry. Trails also wind through the Mezina, where you will be amazed by the Venus Volcano and the Lava Stream natural monument, and then through the stone pass towards Razová, which became the setting for the 1998 film Joan of Arc. Here you must not miss the Razová tuffites protected area and the lime kiln from 1912 a little further on. On the other side of the dam, near Roudný, where you can take the Rouza ferry from Razová, you can climb the volcanoes Malý and Velký Roudný. On the higher one, make sure to climb the stairs of the lookout tower, from which you will have a breathtaking view of the Hrubý Jeseník ridge, Krnovsko, Opava, Beskydy and Oderské vrchy. Not only the volcanic activity and the history of the micro-region can be explored in more detail on the many educational trails.

Slezská Harta is also a paradise for fishermen, sailors and dragon boat lovers. Every summer, the largest dragon boat race in the Moravian-Silesian region takes place at the dam! An equally interesting event, this time for cycling enthusiasts, is the legendary Slezská Harta Superior Bike Marathon, which runs around the entire reservoir.
