Komenského sady in Ostrava
Along the landscaped banks of the Ostravice River in the very centre of Ostrava there is a large park called Komenského sady. It is an ideal place for walking, sitting or skating.
There is also a cycle path through the park, which continues towards the mining museum in Landek and on the other side leads you past Slezskoostravský hrad to the Beskydy Mountains. There are also places for sunbathing on the banks of the river. The park is loved by joggers and in winter it is a paradise for cross-country skiers.
Sady is one of the largest urban parks in the Czech Republic. Along the green area runs Sadova Street, where you can admire the most magnificent villas in Ostrava, including representative corporate buildings and the headquarters of the Polish Consulate. The park is also adjacent to the magnificent New Town Hall. There is also a tennis or badminton hall and outdoor tennis courts, where the most famous Czech tennis player, Ostrava native Ivan Lendl, got his start. In the park there is also a memorial to the liberation.
