Božena Němcová Park in Karviná

A popular place for walks not only for the inhabitants of Karviná is the Božena Němcová Park, which is a chateau garden in Fryštát, the old part of the town. In addition to romantic walks with a view of the empire-style Fryštát Chateau, people also come here to the modern summer cinema.

The garden was founded in the early 19th century as a typical English-style castle park and surrounds the impressive castle building. The estate was owned by the Larisch-Mönnich family, who greatly influenced not only Karviná, but much of the entire region as far as Ostrava and Opava. It is in the chateau park that this counting family has its tomb. There is also a Boathouse in the park, where you can rent a boat and sail along the blind arm of the Olše River. The former chateau stables are a zoo with deer and water birds. Families with children will also find a pleasant playground in the park, which is reminiscent of an old Slavic fortress.
