Bozena Nemcova Park in Karvina

The park, 'Bozena Nemcova', is popular for walks and not only with residents of Karvina. It is really the former grounds of the Fryštát chateau, ie the oldest part of town. In addition to romantic walks with a view of the empirical-style chateau, people also come here for the modern, open-air cinema.

The garden was founded in the early 19th century as a typical English style chateau park to surround the imposing chateau building. The estate was owned by Larisch-Mönnich, who greatly influenced not only Karvina, but a large part of the region from Ostrava to Opava. Today, in the park, there is located the count’s family tomb.

There is also a  Loděnice (boathouse) in the park from where you can rent a boat and cruise on the oxbows of the Olše (Olza) river. In one of the former castle stables there is a mini-zoo with deer and waterfowl. Families with children will also find a nice playground in the park which resembles an old Slavic settlement.
