Church of Cyril and Methodius Hrčava

The wooden church of Cyril and Methodius has stood in Hrčava since the 1930s and is the youngest wooden church in the Moravian-Silesian region. The carved baptismal font by local one-armed carver Ondřej Zogata is unique.

The church is located along the route that leads tourists to a popular place called Trojmezí, where the borders of three countries meet: the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland. Near the church there is also the Lourdes Cave. This place of pilgrimage was created artificially during the construction of the Church of Cyril and Methodius. The builders imported more stone than was needed. So Karel Smyczek, the head teacher from Jablunkov and also a member of the provincial parliament (and grandfather of the famous Czech film director of the same name), proposed to build an artificial cave from the leftover stone and to bring water from the spring to it. The water is said to be healing, especially for eye diseases.
