Curch of St. John of Nepomuk

The construction of the church in Čeladná was taken care of by the enlightened ruler Joseph II, who issued an imperial decree in 1782, according to which new churches were to be built. The Emperor wanted people to travel no further than an hour to the church.

The monarch even made sure that the religious did not have to cross mountains, rivers and snow-covered roads. Therefore, even in Čeladná, from where people came to Frýdlant nad Ostravicí, they had their own church. The relatively simple building was opened in 1789 and dedicated to St. John of Nepomuk. An interesting thing to see in the church is the image of St. Isidore, the patron saint of peasants, which decorates one of the side altars.

The massive cast-iron cross, which stands at the entrance to the cemetery, was donated by Count Chotek, the highest purgrave of the Kingdom of Bohemia. The cross is a testament to the excellent work of the master founders who cast it in the 1930s.
