Gabriel’s House in Bruntál

The local square showcases the history of the oldest town in the Czech Republic. The landmark, so-called Gabriel’s House, tells the town’s story. It’s clearly has medieval origins but its current look comes from around 1600, i.e. from the time the town flourished and was ruled by the Lords of Vrbno.

The house stands at the corner of the square and is one of the most beautiful burgess houses in Silesia. In spite of reconstruction in the 18th and 19th centuries, it has retained its original features, including the crow-step gable, which is typical for Silesian architecture. The false arcades and bars in the windows are also original. In the 1950s, this former house became a municipal museum.

History lovers can visit Gabriel’s House to whet their appetite before visiting the local castle with its exhibition dedicated to the town’s history.
