Historical centre of Hlučín
The centre of Hlučín has retained much of its original form. Already in the Middle Ages the town grew from an almost square-shaped square, which was quite unusual in this area.
The historic centre itself has been preserved despite the many modifications to the town, including the most radical one in the second half of the 20th century, when Hlučín merged with the growing city of Ostrava and transport links to Ostrava had to be addressed.
Today, the town centre is a protected conservation area, which consists not only of the square but also the local chateau with the adjacent Church of St. John the Baptist.
