Hlučin’s historical centre

The centre of the city of Hlučín has preserved much of its original appearance. In the Middle Ages, Hlučín expanded from the almost perfectly proportioned town square, which was unusual for this region.

The historical heart of the city itself remained intact, even through various city reconstructions. The most radical one in the second half of the 20th century saw Hlučín become incorporated into the expanding city of Ostrava, where  transportation connections into the city needed to be resolved.

Today, Hlučin’s centre is a protected conservation zone that is made up of the town square, as well as the local chateau with the adjacent Saint John the Baptist Church.
