Museum Fojtství (Custodian’s Museum) in Kopřivnice
The Fojtství museum boasts the address- number 1, and it is the oldest surviving dwelling. It has been standing here since the sixteenth century and today's brick building dates from 1789. It was in this building that the son of a local custodian, Ignatius Šustala, began to produce the first buggies and carriages in 1850, and thus layed the foundations of the famous car manufacturer TATRA.
Today, the manufacture of carriages, wagons and automobiles is one part of the museum exposition at Fojtství Museum. Another part shows folk customs of local people associated with the life of inhabitants of this part of the Beskydy foothills. You will also see archaeological excavations, including Šostýnské Venus of Šostýn Castle. More on the development of car production in Koprivnice can be learnt at a modern Technical Museum TATRA in Koprivnice.
