The Stations of the Cross in Horní Lomná
The special feature of the Stations of the Cross, which leads from the Church of the Holy Cross in Horní Lomná, is that it guides pilgrims through the local forest.
The path, which passes through a forest ravine and ends at the cemetery, was built by the Carmelite Order, which was active in Horní Lomná at the end of the 20th century. The stone comes from quarries in nearby Řeka, the inscriptions and depictions were made in Rome. The Stations of the Cross are made up of fourteen wooden crosses and the inscriptions for each depiction are in Polish. It was opened in 1995, when the faithful commemorated the centenary of the building of the local church.
Horní Lomná has been a place of pilgrimage since the 19th century, when local believers erected a cross at the spring of Our Lady of Lourdes. The locals regarded the water as miraculous because they believed that after the pilgrimage they made to the spring, the cholera epidemic in Jablunkov died out. The pilgrimage site was also visited by the Bulgarian Tsar, Ferdinand I of Bulgaria.
