The Buildings of Dusan Jurkovic in Pustevny

The summit of Pustevny has attracted tourists since the nineteenth century. Therefore, there gradually emerged mountain shelters. The most famous of them originated in the late nineteenth century and was built by the Slovak architect Dusan Jurkovic. The man who is known for his buildings, for example in the spa Luhačovice, managed to replicate the popular folk art nouveau style of the regions of Wallachia and Kysuce.

On Pustevny, there were a pair of colorfully decorated wooden huts, Maměnka and Libušín, which were decorated with works by the painter Mikoláš Aleš. Both cottages offer excellent homemade food, gnocchi, frgály and blueberry dumplings.

Other works by Jurkovic on Pustevny include the bell tower with colorful ornaments. On the way to the famous statue of the pagan god Radegast and the top of Radhošť stand many restaurants and food stalls. The local specialty is mead which is served hot in the winter.
