The chateau in Velké Hoštice

Not only does the chateau showcase the beauty of baroque art, it also spins the tale of the troubled history of this region.

The frescoes in the chateau were created by the prominent baroque painter known as Antonio Sebastini. Sebastini decorated churches in Poland, in the Bruntál area, as well as in his native Prostějov.

The chateau and the entire village are places mourned by Empress Maria Theresa following losses of the wars with Prussia. With the ratification of the Versailles Treaty in 1920, the village became part of the newly established country of Czechoslovakia.

Another place to visit in Velké Hoštice is the infantry blockhouse that was part of the Czechoslovak border fortifications.
