The historic heart of Frydek-Mistek

The greater of the two, the Silesian town of Frydek, is built around Frýdek's square and chateau. The history of this part of the town dates back to the early fourteenth century when the Cieszyn estate was acquired by Prince Kasimir I from the Czech King John of Luxembourg.

At the top of the square is the entrance to the chateau, whose foundations date back to the fourteenth century when the castle used to protect the route between Příbor and Těšín. From the chateau and lookout tower in the park there is a beautiful view of the river Ostravice and Beskydy.

Another part of the historic center of Frydek is the Church of St. John the Baptist, whose tower boasts an amazing view of the mountain range.

The historic centre of Mistek consists of Náměstí Svobody (Freedom Square) with archways and townhouses. Here you will find picturesque pubs and cafes. In the corner of the square stands the church of St. James.
