The Lime Kiln in Vendryně

A great trip for lovers of both history and nature

The lime kiln, or “wopieky”, was built in Vendryně near Trinec in the early 19th century. Today, there are two furnaces that have been repaired and promote knowledge of the history of this area and provide for the relaxation of visitors. One of the kilns is made from stone and the second, more recent, is built of brick.Vápenky, or lime kilns, were founded near Vendryně because that was where lime was burnt that came from limestone which was quarried nearby. Lime is used in blast furnaces for the extraction of iron from iron ore. Iron ore, which used to be mined in this area was of poor quality and has now ceased, therefore the lime kilns lost their importance.
