The Tetřev (Grouse) Lookout

The peak of the mountain Velký Polom (Big Polom) is part of the ridge of the Beskydy mountains which forms the border between the Czech Republic and Slovakia. It is a favorite place of hikers who are catered for by three tourist lodges.

The view of both the Slovak and Czech side of the mountains is enhanced by a new look-out tower, ‘Tetřev (Grouse)’, which is part of a hotel and stands in the place of the old chalet which included a water tower from the early 20th century. It was this water tower that became the basis for the ten-meter-high observation tower.

In winter, there are maintained slopes in the area of ‘Severka’ (the North Star) and the whole ridge is connected by one of the most beautiful cross-country skiing trails that will lead you to ‘Bílý Kříž’ (the White Cross).
