Chateau in Stará Ves nad Ondřejnicí

On the way from the airport in Mošnov you can stop in Stará Ves nad Ondřejnicí, which was drawn on the maps by Jan Amos Komenský when he was creating his great work, the famous map of Moravia.

Here you can visit a richly decorated 16th-century chateau, to which a legend is attached that the village was plundered by Swedish troops during the Thirty Years’ War. The Swedes occupied the chateau and the church. The locals managed to drive some of the Swedish troops into the chateau cellar, where the villagers slaughtered them. To this day, the chateau cellar is called the “Swede’s cellar” and the legend is confirmed by the staff of the chateau restaurant, which is now housed in the brick vaults of this cellar.

The premises serve as an exhibition gallery, concerts are held in the courtyard and you can take a pleasant stroll in the park. Stará Ves nad Ondřejnicí is an ideal place to explore the area of the Jistebník Ponds, which are situated in its surroundings.
