The Chateau in Stará Ves nad Ondřejnicí

On your way from the airport in Mošnov, you can stop by Stará Ves nad Ondřejnicí. This city was literally put on the map by Jan Amos Komenský when he was composing his great work, the famous Map of Moravia.

Here, you can visit the richly decorated sixteenth century chateau. Legend says that that during the time of the Thirty Years’ War, the village was plundered by the Swedish armies. The Swedes seized the chateau and the church. Locals were able to drive part of the Swedish unit into the chateau’s cellar, were they were massacred by the villagers. To this day, the chateau’s cellar bears the nickname ‘Švéďák’ (‘Swede’), and the staff of the restaurant that now resides among the brick arches of the cellars will confirm the legend.

The area serves as a gallery, concerts are hosted in the courtyard and the park is great for a pleasant stroll. Stará Ves nad Ondřejnicí is the perfect place to discover the Jistebnické rybníky (Jistebnické Ponds) that are found in the surrounding area.
